The Dean Koontz Newsletter
Dean Koontz had a pet golden retriever named Trixie who recently passed away. She was a retired companion dog from CCI. I would like to think that Trixie has met Mom and that she is accompanying Mom along with Mom’s beloved pets and cousins and other loved ones.
Mom was not a "fundamentalist," but Mom believed fervently in God and in Jesus. She believed that Jesus was the Son of God. She believed in life beyond this life and in the eternal life of the soul.
Mom adamantly emphasized the importance of her memorial service being a time of joy, celebration and happy sharing of memories, stories and jokes.
"An audience at a memorial service is a captive audience and they’ll be very receptive to any humor whatsoever, so be sure you use good material."
Any sobbing should be quickly followed by the antidote of a joke or a funny story, she said. "You can cry later," she reasoned, "But by then, the laughter will have quelled the need."
(Yes. She used words like quell.)
